The Sound Pressure is measured in decibels and is dependent on the acoustical condition and actual distance of measurement from the sound source.

In general, the home compressor produces sound waves of 60 decibels to 90 decibels. As such, we need to make arrangements to device quiet air compressor for our home use. The following are some of the ways you can achieve a quiet air compressor for home use.

Sound Insulation

In sound insulation, a large barrier is used between the source of a sound and the receiver. The barrier should be thick enough to reflect back the sound.
This technique is often used in homes and apartments. A sound insulation box is used for the compressor.
You can quickly make a sound insulation box with fibre sheet, sound insulation materials along with power source and cables.

In the video, The Box is made of fibre sheet and uses sound blanket materials. This helped in considerable reduction of noise from 85db to around 40 dB.

Sound Absorption

Sound absorbents are porous materials which are used in the walls, spacing to absorb more sound. Please do understand that noise absorption is different from sound blocking.

Sound dampening material like audimute is used to increase the coefficient of absorption.
You can use this material on the walls of your house to absorb a higher percentage of the sound.
Adding a carpet, dark furniture, drapes and acoustic panels in your room will go a long way in increasing the sound absorption capability of the chamber.

In the case of a bare wall or room, the sound waves hit the walls and get reflected. As such, the noise level increases.
However, after using the acoustical material in your room, you can find that more and more sound waves are getting absorbed rather than being reflected. This considerably helps in the reduction of the noise.

Compressor Room

If possible, you can use a separate Compressor room. Compressor room is generally made from concrete and gypsum which helps in reducing the sound level by 20 to 25-decibel levels.
Adding acoustic absorption material on the wall is an added benefit.
You can also make sure to have an interior lining of the walls of your room to absorb more sound.

Silent Compressor

Nowadays, many people use a silent compressor. This type of compressor does not produce as much noise as its other predecessor.
A compressor which consists of a centrifugal unit is much quieter than reciprocating one.
Centrifugal compressor is a steady flow compressor and hence id subjected to less vibration and noise.

Compressor produces high noise level due to the nature of the load acting on it. As such, if it starts getting heated up, the noise level may increase.
So, it is always better to use a fan in the compressor compartment. The fan helps in dislodging the hot air. This reduces the load on the compressor and makes it loss noisy.

Compressor Tools

If you’re working with a compressor in your home, then be sure that there will be problems which would require tit-bit maintenance from your end.
So, it would be extremely handy to a keep a set of tools nearby so that you can attend the problem without delay in time.
